Preparing for an interview can be intimidating but here are a few things you can do in preparation for a successful interview.

1. Focus on the job description / job advert
While preparing, use the job description / advert as a guide. The more similar your profile is compared to job description, the more the employer will be able to see that you are qualified. The job description may also be a guide to possible questions they might ask you in the interview.
2. Know why you are interviewing for the role
You need to know why you want this job and be able to motivate why they should choose you.
3. Thoroughly research the company
This will provide context for your interview conversations and it will also help you when preparing thoughtful questions for your interviewers. You need to know what the company does and also find out about the company culture. Culture is important. If you can’t find this online, remember to ask about it in your interview.
4. Practice common interview questions
You can’t prepare for every question, so at least know the basics really well. For example, why do you want to work here? Why this role? Tell me about yourself… etc.
5. Watch your body language
Speak clearly and with confidence; no slouching in your seat. Remember that first impressions last.
6. Prepare a few thoughtful questions to ask
Remember that an interview is a two-way street. As much as the interviewer is assessing your fit, you also need to assess if it’s a company you’d like to work for.
7. Get there a few minutes early
Give yourself a few minutes to settle and calm your nerves. Nothing makes you more anxious than arriving late. Stay calm and be yourself!
Good luck!
