The F in Farming is for Female

Updated: Aug 12, 2020

I came across this amazing woman via social media on Sunday and I was truly inspired by her. Ncumisa is a tourism graduate who is passionate about farming (you might have seen her on SABC Morning Live yesterday). I love her energy and I think she has what it takes to really go places.

Tell us a little about yourself and what you do.

My name is Ncumisa Mkabile, 27 year old female farmer from Khayelitsha, Cape Town. I am the Owner and Founder of Mamcube Homegrown Chicken. I do crop farming as well as live stock farming.

How old is your business now?

My business is 4 months old.

How did you come up with the idea of and name for your business?

Mamcube is my clan name so this journey is very personal to me. It's a legacy that I'll be leaving behind for my family.

What makes your business unique?

What makes my business unique is the delivery service that I provide to my people because I understand that people don't like waiting in long lines at the shops so I deliver at the comfort of their own home.

How do you market your business, and which methods have been most successful for you?

I market on Social Media and the support I've been getting is amazing!

What does a typical day look like for you? And how many hours, on average, do you work daily?

I wake up at 05h00 and I need to prepare for the day, like checking orders and make sure that everything is up and running at the farm. I'm usually done with deliveries at 21h00.

How has being an entrepreneur affected your life?

It has affected my life in a positive way because the main reason why I became an entrepreneur was to create employment for my people so with the kind of support I'm getting I managed to employ 5 people at the farm.

If you could go back in time and start up your business all over again, what would you do differently?

I wouldn't do anything differently. I believe in starting small and gradually growing along the way.

What is one piece of advice you’d like give to someone just starting out?

If you want to do something do it now and never procrastinate. Start with what you have, it will give you what you need.

Where can we find your business on social media?
